Subject title: Composition advice

Hey guys. I wanted to get some advice on composition cause I feel like it's one of the areas I need the most help in.
Though optimally I'd like to get a job penciling a comic book, I'd also like to improve my digital painting skills.
I usually feel like there's something not quite right about the finished composition but I can't put my finger on it.
The character is a friends OC and the same dude in my sketchbook.

Hey there, I think it's a cool image, but you're right about your concerns with the composition... The problem is that you have all these direction lines pointing in random directions. So your eye is being led all over the place. And a lot of those lines are taking your eye right out of the canvas. I did a quick paintover, changing the fish, some of the sharks, leg and head position and added a foreground element that all point back to the character. If you do want his head in the position you have it, it seems like he's looking down off the page, so maybe you should include whatever he's looking at. Also, try to stay away from such a central composition... I also recropped the image so the character's head ( the focal point ) is further off center.

Anyway, it's really a VERY nice image here. Really well painted!
