Subject title: Help me make better art!...please

Wanderer small.jpg

Here's a recent example piece that I find is pretty indicative of where I'm at with my art at the moment.

It would be awesome if you'd look at more of my art here: though and give some overall critique on my work and suggestions on how to achieve a higher level.

Thanks guys 8-)

"Better at art is pretty vague"---what are you trying to do with art? What's the purpose of art for you?
I post art to these places

I would say there is an overall lack of resolve in your work. Most of the pieces look along to lines of sketches or unfinished work. I can really only assume things about how you work and it is hard to give anything constructive past general tips without more info.

Another potential area you could work on is to try and become less line dependent. To me it looks like you are relying on line to describe things, even in the pieces where you tried eliminate the lines. Lines are not bad to use but when you rely upon them to describe the edges between things your work has a kind of flatness. Try to start learning and thinking in terms of form and value.

Audiazif is being seconded by me!

Also, you're trying to juggle way too many things for your skill level. Restrict yourself to a hard square brush and paint in black and white only at most, maybe draw in pencil or ballpoint. You're not putting any forms down, that's quite hard to learn. Your shapes aren't very clear either, this stuff takes years of study. Same goes for anatomy, colour, edgework, gesture .......

If you want to get gud, focus on great execution for the simplest drawings you could imagine. The subjects you're attempting have an understandable, focused direction and that's awesome, but you need to put down a couple thousand boxes beforehand, so to speak.

Have a fun journey, you definitively have it in you. You're gonna make it :) see, it's supposed to be fi_le like the file from the computer... the one where you put the data things in.
