Subject title: How to make sure my character designs not a total rip off?

I just wanted to test out creating a comic w/this centaur guy and this wolpertinger-looking guy, but I think its pretty obvious he looks way too much like phil from hercules.

Here are some other designs of him:

I just want him to be fugly, like... non fuckable. Which one should I go for? Does he look like a total rip off? Pls critique.

I mean, I think the only thing that he seems to have in common with Phil is body-type in most of the sketches. If you're concerned with the colors adding to matching looks you could make his fur some other color or paint it in a style with some hue variation that gives him a more unique look. Maybe also consider the character's attitude. If you avoid sticking strictly to archetypes and make characters more deep and humanized (ironic word choice for a satyr, but whatever) then it will also help. If he acts a lot like Phil, you're just going to see more Phil.

Hope these notes help.
