Subject title: Chromab's weird sketches

Hello fellas, I think I should write a little about my background. First off, I don't know why I picked the name Chromab, I was such a noob (still?) and didn't know chromatic aberration was such a meme back then  I tried to use it for my avatar at least but failed. Anyway...
Last year I got in industrial design at uni. You may think that it has a lot to do with concept art and just the design part of art, but in my case, with my country's level of education, it was just a big waste of time and money. Can you believe that one of my teachers just sat there and started reading us a pdf tutorial to learn how to use Rhino?
At first it was like are you fucking serious? but then it was just sad. Like, come on! I could read that tutorial and learn the frikin program by myself and without your obnoxious voice. It was like that for almost all the other classes.
And hten, just like deux ex machina I found cubebrush video about college and art education on youtube and Inpursuitofart's video too. And I was always into art but wanted to become a comic artist before getting into digital.
So, I quit this year in may. Then I found sycra and got a graphic tablet at last.
When I started this sketchbook I was still directionless and didn't really understood what I had to do to improve and I'm still finding out stuff. And now that I'm learning by myself is entirely up to me to show my parents that I can make a living with art.
So, if you want to critique my stuff or just comment, go ahead..lets improve together :D

I use the paper testure now thanks to sycra

No you don't =) Just kick those asses who are telling you what you should do with your style, and after that just draw whatever you like!

And I want to say, you have some very interesting things on just those few canvases, feels like a mix of everyfin to me, but it's kinda working. I like your sketches =) So keep it up, and welcome to forums!

I'm back :D :D (*with that pokemon go kid's voice)
I've been meaning to post my sketches here but stuff kept happening.
One of the reasons is that I got discouraged in art plus my awful laziness.
I just spiraled in procrastination until I got back from the dead...
Hopefully posting here will help me be more consistent and get better in art, so critiques are more than welcomed. :D

So, let's start with the sketches. Is mostly colored pencils and crayons -I'm trying to get rid of my old and cheap art supplies

Don't worry about styles. Draw what you find appealing. Your style will come later i think.

That's right, you should focus on improving your technique and practice, and a style will start showing naturally as you explore. Everyone has their own aesthetic sense, you just need the tools to make it come to life, and skill is just something you gotta put in the time to acquire :)
It's normal to be dissatisfied with your work (i'd even say it's something no one will ever be free of), but you just can't let yourself stop.

Thanks for your advice :) And yeah, I recently watched one of Bobby Chiu videos in wich he says style is a very personal thing and that's not really a learning method.

Speaking of videos, I always watch tons of tutorials and speedpaintings but never apply what I see. And now I tried to paint like a sculptor thanks to sinix! I know he talks about smoothing and cutting but I just stayed geometrical in this one

From now on I will post more studies -hopefully- because my learning process is all over the place. So, fundamentals, be nice...

Kind of a specific thing, but i really like bird-like dragons! The teal color for the feathers looks nice too.

The concept you mentioned earlier of "painting like a sculptor" i think is very important! I have to remind myself constantly to mind the forms and planes of what i'm drawing, and it always makes the drawing look better when i do. Recommend! :D

I was just going to say exactly what Ragamuffin said about your dragon so... hey, +1 to that comment, I find that creature really cool too =).
I like how you seem to explore stuff quite freely by the way, I never post my sketches if I find them a bit too weird. But it's usually a good thing to let your creativity take over =D.

Thanks! and yes, is very useful to start thinking in 3d to paint things better, if you haven't seen the sinix video you should, he has other amazing stuff too. :D

Thank you :D Yes, sometimes I don't know how to order my thoughts and stay constant with so many things in the net and tutorials and such, I don't finish the studies I start so all I have is my weird scribbles to post...

Now, more quick color sketches (more than an hour is still quick right?), I'm starting to like doing this and trying to use interesting colors not thinking to much about details

More color sketches, I started a chain of "recycling" stuff from one sketch to another, it always leads to unexpected things :D

I'm trying to paint and actually finish ONE painting, I feel like this might be the chosen one -I'm the least constant person in the art world-...I know I will change a lot of things, the composition and colors...

Good luck with finishing that last piece! It looks pretty nice, and I know how difficult it can be to do ^^
Nice colors, btw!

F-finishing a painting? What is this mythical thing you speak of?
Seriously though, I need to do that before i completely forget that it's a thing...

Nice choice, i think that can be quite a cool pic. Do thumbnails! It helps you plan and change things without wasting a lot of time on details. :D
Good luck, and great work so far!

Hey, I´m not alone in never finishing a painting then :D Yes, I always forget to do thumbnails, thanks for the tip

Aand the chain of recycled paintings continues.
I don't really know anything about color theory jet but it's fun to just put whatever color and try different moods
