So i've been "studying" values for something like two months but this is the first time i've put in to practice what i think i've learned. I wish i could show you the original but it was a borrowed photo and i no longer have it. In my eyes the values aren't too bad, but i'd like to have someone else's view on it. Also some values got a bit brighter when i scanned it, just something to consider.

I think this is kind of along the lines of a "spotty" drawing. There are spots of value and they all don't seem to be cohesive to one another. This happens usually when someone is seeing all the detail instead of the bigger value shapes. First look for the big shapes of value and then add detail and refine those shapes.

I guess that's right, i have trouble making out shapes when there are smooth gradients so i'll work on that.
