Please, make a overpainting :D
I wanna improve the values and create a pretty cloud, this is very hard for me (i'm studying grayscale, but clouds are dificulty)

Well, I can't refuse a good paintover request. But you should know that what you need is not really a 'how to paint a cloud step by step' tutorial. You need to learn how to light objects and paint form. Your clouds show a general understanding of light source and shading, but they are not convincingly 3D. So clouds aside you need to do some studies of just basic forms. Paint some spheres and try to really turn the form instead of sloppily placing shadows and highlights. Because if your shadows aren't functioning to make the form three dimensional realize they are really just there for decoration.

I'll be honest, I haven't painted a lot of clouds. but it looked fun to paint so i painted over it anyway. Treat clouds like you would treat any solid object. The difference is going to be that they are an irregular shape, and there are going to be soft edges where the clouds pull away into wisps. Your clouds look very 'cut out'. there is a hard edge around them all the way around. Try to go for a variety of hard and soft edges.

The other thing is that clouds are not really made of lumps of forms put together. I'm glad you are joining round shapes together to form a bigger shape, but at the same time you are being too literal with making the clouds look like they are made from tennis balls. You've lost sight of the entire form, just focusing on the smaller shapes within it and you need to consider the entire cloud when you add shadows.

Now I will give you a step by step instruction of what I painted. It will probably not help all that much until you have the same understanding of three dimensional form as i do. Not that I'm a master by any stretch of the imagination.


This is the same first step as you have done, but I'm blocking in larger forms.

Big step. I darkened the shadows and softened the edge between shadow and light. This is basically where all the form comes from. not so much the highlight. Darkening the terminator suggests reflected light from the sky + there will be additional reflected light in the shadows from nearby clouds.

You can add subsurface scattering. This is when light passes through the object. Adding this makes the clouds feel less solid.

some highlights with a slightly warmer color. If you highlight too much your cloud will look fake or like plastic.

So I hope this helps. I would recommend just watching or rewatching Sycra's vidoes on light and shadow actually. it explains pretty much everything. ... WqScFTRhtv
