Subject title: Corruption Critique! (Video Okay)

This is my submission for the weekly challenge, but I really like it, I feel like all the practice is paying off. But it being my best piece yet (in my opinion) that means I need it to be ripped up by all of you so I can get better, rip away!

just rememver what i said about his arms and try to make the folds on his left sleeve look less like veins. If they are more fold like, they will need shadow under them, like heavier shadows

hey that guy kinda look like vladimir putin :D

anyways, proportion wise..its way off sorry...his shoulders are too wide..i read in andrew loomis' book that an ideal width of the body will be 3 heads i guess? so thats one head for the left and right shoulders then the head itself in the center..anyways go read that eBook its free andrew loomis drawing the human figure and head :)

fix the arms as well see references of how a person should look like when they are sitting (front view), judging from this you drew from memory i reckon :) but a reference would help a lot

for the face: his eyes are kinda too small...and the proportions kinda feel off try to fix that just remember the an ideal face the end of the eyes, the nostrils are aligned and the corner of the mouth is somwhere aligned to the pupils of the eyes heres a tutorial for you with the line guides: http://snigom.deviantart.com/art/Face-P ... l-44290362
and some extras for making the face :)

anyways hope this helps!

I figured, thanks! I probably should have used a reference, only used one on the hand (because I had no clue what a skeletal hand looked like lol).

Hey Snake... I have one advice for you. try to see the form of your subject. Can you do that?
if you don't pay attention to that, you will make a few mistakes that could have been easily avoided.

It would be cool to play around a bit with the skeleton part to make it seem a bit more evil to go along with the corruption theme.

I probably should have used a reference
... well i guess you actually used one (the similarities are too striking imho)...which is good and not a shame @ all, but then i wonder why you wouldn't say so and deny it...
I stumbled over it when looking for good reference stuff for my final putin illustration for my caricature course. I might be picky, but these kind of things go a bit against my "artists code of honor" to say so...". Opinions and comments on this?

yes references seem to be like a crutch for beginner artists, (such as myself) but no one should think of them that way. If you want to create an accurate image and are unfamiliar with proportions and such, it is 1000% good, not okay, good to use a reference haha. i know that i, from experience, feel more a sense of accomplishment when not using a reference, y'know?

can't really see the problem with saying "I used reference"... I personally use it lots of times! you should even look at other artists work, and see what they did, and try and figure out, why did it like that... it's one of the best ways to learn... dude, you really don't have to lie to the gang... there is no shame in using reference, lying on the other hand... that's not really cool...

Yeah busted is the word Z...

i think its an excellent choice to use a putin reference (of whatever quality) in a piece for "corruption".

Agreed. My "academic life" taught me this a lot and I don't respect people that deny or keep quiet about something, especially if it's this obvious.

Oh wow I forgot all about this post, I was at a friends house for the past few days (with no internet access :c)

And when I said I used no reference I meant I didn't copy the painting straight off an image, of course I used pictures to help with anatomy and stuff, I'm far to novice yet to do this straight from my head. (Though I tried the lomis thing this weekend while I was away, it turned out pretty good! I'll put it in my sketchbook if your interested in seeing it :D .)

hmmm... let's get this straight.
Using reference does not mean copy! using reference is purely for getting ideas or study your subject better so you know "how and what" you draw.
there are other things too imo that can't be labeled as "copy" unless it's very iconic for a certain piece.
Let's say, copying a pose and drawing a different character. here we can say, the pose was used as reference.

Copying however is just drawing the exact same thing with no added value.
But on the other hand, Copying work can also be a way of studying the work.

the bad type of copying is labeling them as original work when it was not. get the difference? :ugeek:
