I think you're using too many values in a single spot and the round brushstroke marks make the painting look spotty. Try to think about the planes of the face when deciding what value to use on a spot.
Also now there is no defined edges, so for example the eyes blend in with the rest of the image even though it's supposed to be a focal point. There is also some unnecessary light on the left side of the face.
