OLD - GO TO LAST PAGE FOR MOST RECENT STUFF

FIRST POST:

I guess I'll start with a short intro thing, for those who care about that kinda stuff.
I'm alpacky, 16 yo HS student (don't go easy on critiques though). I'm finding it difficult to get better in art, without in turn.. hating it. I'm hoping posting on this forum will help with that, and bit of advice, motivation etc. that I can get will make this much easier. If you guys are into the psychological side of art, I will take comments along those lines, as well as art critiques/advice.
Pictures to high res, sorry, look at imgur links until I can lower their resolution on my iPad...

Welcome to the forum.
Can you tell me about the psychological side of art?

Tell you? What do you mean?
Well... depends which type your talking about... there's the psychology behind improving, reaching your goals... the "mentality" one should get into to be successful in developing their skills. Then there's what the observers notice within a piece, a sort of, snobby, forced interpretation, which, if done properly, can be helpful to the artist in a variety of ways. In sycra logical problems, for example, they discuss the meanings behind bobs drawings, having childhood trauma relating to facial burns/scalds. He internalized his pain and forgot about it, his main way of expressing that pain coming out in his "screaming faces". A little cliche and cheeses some may say, but it makes too much sense to be ignored. If someone notices the things I'm focused on to possibly relate to my life, or see that MY practices are Leading me on a bad path, that won't help me improve (such as how some people do exclusively finished pieces, leaving no room for improvement in quick sketches) pointing it out to me would be appreciated.
I hope that's what you meant, holy crap that's a novel... sorry .
:p

Thank you that make sense.
I think its cliche and cheeses when people find forced meaning in splashes of paint, or a line on a canvas. Although i enjoy will made abstract art without thinking what it mean.

Looking to see more from you :)

Just trying to make sure I do SOMETHING each day. Had some fun, but got a little tedious and I'm lazy so it gets sloppy with form and perspective towards the end.

Once again to big for sycra.net, stupid iPad. Will upload actual images not on imgur later, when I get my new laptop.

Bottom 2 are from refrence. Top three are shit from in my match class today.

Sycra needs to raise his max resolution for images, this is getting annoying, lol.

I think the resolution max could be a little bigger, but for the most part it's good to be able to see a whole artwork at a time. If you have to scroll to look at someone's art, it's annoying and you can't see the whole comp, so it's usually fine. I don't think your images need to be bigger than 1000x10000

I also think you are doing fine at figure drawing and you shouldn't be so hard on yourself! Instead of labeling everything you draw as good or bad or just ok, maybe write a note about what went wrong so you can learn from it. Like write 'eyes too big' or 'head too small'. or write something you did well and want to remember to do again. Just an idea.

QUESTION

Is the semi over critical nature of my posts pushing replies away? I can imagine replying would be awkward considering the text I post with my art. Cause I've been getting 1/2 - 1/3 of the replies others wet, idk, I came to the forum looking for a place to talk about art but the conversation seems very one sided...

I don't know. Maybe if you have a specific question about your piece you can write it down. Because if you ask more specified question it's easier to answer it i guess. And if you have more broad question you can post it in Critique or Art question forum, i guess that more people might want to answer that. Also commenting on others sketchbook helps a lot to get replies from them :D

For now I can say that I like your style in these characters. These landscapes looks intresting too :)
Keep it up!

I think your drawings are nice. Portrait is looking pretty good. Not that easy in my opinion.
Not the portrait but the other drawings have some pretty and loose lines though.

I like the female warrior piece, she looks cute for me :D
If you don't know where to place her feet, you can draw some raw and basic perspective lines on ground. It'll make it easier!

I'd say Koz's advice for placing feet is good. Just have some to indicate the plane where your character is standing on. 8-)

I really like the armor on the warrior girl. The legs look like they're turning outward though, I think it's the feet. I think you should look at drapes or something too, the cape has a really round shape, which I think you could improve on.
Oh and I think you forgot to give her a shadow
And I really like the shapes you used on the robot landscape robot. :D
