Subject title: Ambiguity's Sketch Dump

@Joyce: Thank you :).
@Steeliebob: Yeah that's the idea, and I wouldn't be too impressed, just takes some slowing down and thinking in basic volumes, but thanks :).

I decided I'm not gonna be posting as much stuff, I think I've been too much about getting recognition and it's been affecting my practice negatively. Here's a piece I finished recently though, worked on it for 40hrs. I really tried to push my current abilities to their limits, so I think it's the most accurate gauge of my skill level to date:

Wow, really nice work Ambi. It's beautiful. I love the dramatic composition and the colors!

Portraits of art buddies:

It was actually pretty tough to paint these, I haven't painted portraits from ref' in so long(last one was over a year ago) and none of the colors I used are in the original references. I'd say I'm rusty, but actually looking back at my old portraits, I don't think I actually pushed them very far, so it's not surprising I was struggling.

Love the lighting in the portraits. The one girls eyes look cartoon big!

@L3V': Fank you~
@Arte': Thanks, I think I got a tiny bit better at pushing form after that Kenshin piece.
@KitKat: Thank you, although, to be honest I think I'd much prefer it to look less labored over and more gestural in style, but this is the only way I know how to make things look half way decent currently :P.
@kipzi: You're a cartoon! And thank you :).
@Xiphor: I'm glad you think so. I tried man, I tried.... q.q

Just an art trade I did for an art buddy; it's one of her characters:

Really like the faces. Especially the way you do eyes and noses.

I think the only thing you might level up on is the necks and how they attach to your heads.
I know I struggle with that constantly.

Good stuff! Looking forward to seeing more.

@pseudome: That's a new one, and kind of interesting, thanks :D.
@joyce: Thanks, although I can't really take credit for that since I was given the character's color scheme, but the colors used to render are mine.
@renaway: I'm sure the character artist would be happy to know that :).
@rafagarcia: Thanks, I usually only get criticism when it comes to gesture in my portraits lol.
@Weaver:Thank you, glad you like them. I think I actually understand the muscles of the neck and how they attach quite well if that's what you're saying, although I have gotten crit from others that the necks aren't very gestural, but I think that's more of a posing problem than an accuracy one. At anyrate, I have been working on that for a few weeks, so hopefully they're a bit better now.

I don't have any sketches I want to show since I last posted, but here's a simple piece I completed recently:

Nice job on the painting. the clean brushstrokes imply you have a good idea on how to get there and I like what you're dong with the rough textured background. :)

@Steeliebob:Thanks for the compliment. And I dunno about that, I went into this with no plan other than I was going to paint a girl, but I suppose jumping in head first helps :).
@geryes: Thanks, happy to hear it :).
@wannabe: Thank you sir, here's hoping I get even better at those things :?.

I'm gonna be updating my commission page soon, here's the first piece I did for that:

There is also a process video with commentary on it if you're interested:
