Subject title: Fi_le's sketchbook

Hi, you beautiful people of the Sycra Art Forum!

There are many virtual sketchbooks, but this is mine. I'll just throw everything I can at this thing and see if you or I have any thoughts about it. (:
I'll have to try really hard not to get discouraged with all the unbelievably good stuff around here; let's hope I can make it.

A little bit about me:
Spoiler: show
You may know me from the Patreon critique Sycra uploaded some time ago, my name is Le***** Fi***. I've shortened that into the dumb internet name fi_le. You can call me anything you like though, I have got no idea how this is supposed to work either.

I live in a medium sized town in Middle Europe and I'm 15 years old. As you can imagine by now, my predispositions for writing understandable and engaging English don't look as good. I still try my best and hope it isn't a problem (:

My favourite artist is Sinix and sometimes that shows waaaay too much, so if I go on zero-originality rampages, be sure to call me out on it.

What makes this art thing much easier for me is that I don't want to become a professional or anything, I just want to make stuff I like. To keep me drawing, I spend some of my money on a monthly critique by Sycra though.
I've been drawing for roughly two years now, I think, and I'm moderately happy with my progress so far. The most important thing right now is that it doesn't stop getting better slowly and that it stays enjoyable.

OK then, here's my current digital art. I do traditional stuff, too, but I'll worry about posting that later.

Some portrait I did. A great person known as Aluffer helped me improve it here on the forum.

The digital sketches I do a lot :)

I kept the reference in there so that you can see what's copied basically

Ohne Titel-96.png
And here we've got a study of another awesome person here on the forum, Spider. You're terrific! (The good terrific)

Whew, this is a lot of work. I have tons of other stuff, as you might be able to tell by the image names, but this is really the only stuff that's presentable in some way.

Have a nice day!

WOAH i cant believe someone did a study of my work i feel so accomplished :]
As for that small critique you requested, I think the biggest issue is the scratchiness of your lines, I'm not sure if it's intentional or not, but it's a little distracting from the piece itself. Your general proportions and color choices are pretty good, but I think learning how to block in shapes of color and whatnot might be helpful.

Best of luck to you and keep practicing :D

Hey Spider, you're very welcome for the ego boost ;)

Thanks for the tips, too! I've been trying to get good shapes going with the single value blocks, but as you said it still comes across as scratchy. I guess it's back to practicing then :) Wish me luck!

Welcome to the forum! You're totally in the right place if you're looking for a good art community - my experience has been nothing but positive. Also: holy crap, if you're just 14 and already drawing and painting as good as you do, you've got some amazing potential. I always envy young artists who were smart enough to start at such an early age - I always feel like I'm playing catch-up.

I'm so looking forward to seeing more of your artwork! Please do stick around! :)

Hi DRaff210 and Anry!
First of all, thank you for your kind comments :)
Secondly, I feel like I'm playing ketchup with you guys, too! (Sorry, I had to do it :)
The community does seem so nice here; lots of skilled and friendly people wherever I look. I feel like I'm repeating myself a lot, but just once more: You're all great!

Thirdly, this:

A first try with my new watercolour set :)

Have a nice day!

OK, so here's another quick update:

DSC_0067.JPG
A super dumb portrait. I like it anyways; it is different in some way I guess...

DSC_0066.JPG
A photo study. I hope you can see something, the photo is quite terrible

And that's it for now! I'm still wondering if I'm doing this right though: Should I wait and upload ten images or so at once or do it like this? Maybe some of you more experienced folks can help me out...
Anyways, best regards!

Just kidding, hey fi_le! :)

God, i wish I was that young and as good at art stuff like you!

You know which forum this is, right? I think you are not making yourself friends with comments like that. (just kidding)

To you question how much you should post, I would say that totally up to you. Its your sketchbook, you can post how much or as little as you want!

Hi guys, I decided to do weekly updates, I think that's the best way to go about it.

About your feedback:
@Steeliebob, firstly, you're really a cool artist and I love your drawings a lot!
To say that you like how freely I'm drawing is the best compliment I could get, cause that's exactly what I'm trying to improve in right now :)

@LK Crown, that's some well executed dad humour right there ;)

OK then, this time we've got mostly sketches on our hands. I tried animating, too, but my computer chewed two of four works and I ruined the other two, so no animations for now.

Above the line, random stuff starring my cat - below the line, Sinix studies

John Singer-Sargent studies. So fun! (Sorry for the photo qualities though)

A tiny little illustration of Cynthia from Pokemon.

Well, I tried. Messing around with a desert landscape...

And that's it for now. Good luck on your journeys, guys!

Daaaamn, those faces. So freely drawn and expressive, yet solid and three-dimensional. Your output is honestly inspiring me to kick my ass into high gear. Keep it up!!

OK, guys, here's this week's update:

@PitE I will keep those colours bold for sure!

@DRaff210 Oh, thanks a lot, that's what I try to do. Your work is inspring as well though :)

@LK Crown Yes, that's what dad humour is (; Also, yup here's an animation I made. It's aaaaaaalright for a first try I guess. A lot of improvements will have to be made!

The attachment Fall.gif is no longer available

And here are the other images. Not very happy with the results at all, but there definetely were fun to do :)

Hi guys!

I just watched this month's critique from Sycra; oh boy, I have to be more precise with my studies! In the future, you can expect some very careful ones.

Thanks, Steeliebob! They're obviously no match to your pages, but they're getting there, hopefully :D In any case, I find these very fun to do.

Well then, this is the last week's result:

Smile_Alt.JPG
A portrait from reference.

DSC_0087_Alt.JPG
A page of faces.

Ohne Titel-103.jpg
An eye.

Another animation. I'm quite happy with this one!

Be sure to enjoy your week :)

OK then, in the last week I mostly focused on one thing and one thing only - This bloody Rembrandt study, with which I'm not even nearly finished:

rembrandt-self-portrait_bak.jpg
Oh boy does this image give me headache.

Nothing spectacular at all, but this time I want to be very accurate. I did a this beforehand though:

DSC_0091.JPG
Traditional attempt, mostly with proportions in mind. The colours are quite terrible, but the proportion turned out OK, I think

A bit more regular image, and the last one for now:

DSC_0090.JPG
Car studies. I don't know if you've seen the model; it's the self-drive test thing.

And that's it again for this week! I wish you good times :)

As I predicted, nothing much to see this week. I've been working very hard on this one single image and it's not the most fun thing to do in this existance, but hey: "In every work that must be done, there is a little bit of fun." Look at what this Rembrandt study has done to me; I'm citing Mary Poppins!

Well, if you have any comments on whether these sorts of studies even are helpful to you, I would appreciate you sharing those :)

Ohne Titel-106.jpg
Darn it! I don't even see a difference from last week's version >;|

Until next week :)

I love that you spend time on studies! And the gun animation looks good a bit stuff but nothing it worry about i

"Big shape stops you from having brackdowns later in life" - Seage
"What have you been doing?? YOU'VE BEEN FUCKING PICKING FLOWERS!!!!" - Michael Jones

First of all, hi maly_! Thanks for your motivation regarding the studies, I really need it dealing with this nasty Rembrandt :)

Here's my progress on him:

Ohne Titel-106.jpg
Despite the difficulty, he is fun to tackle

But this week, I did some other stuff, too.

DSC_0010.JPG
Another watercolour portrait

DSC_0012.JPG
Sea animal and ship studies.

And that's it again :)
