Subject title: snowymoonmans Sketchbook (NSFW)

Mostly making this to have a log of all the stuff I've made. Thinking about doing a "10,000 drawings challenge" after watching Volen CK on youtube talk about doing that, and seeing his improvement. I'm going to try to post at least 1 image here on a daily basis.

These first two i sort of gave up on halfway through, if I'm being completely honest

This one I'm fairly proud of, there was a ton of cross referencing in terms of measuring angles and distances between things

I sort of tacked on the hair for this one, and some of the features of the face are a little off.

Also to add on to this, I've been taking drawing seriously for about 1 week

An uncomplete study of the Loomis method. I'm going to try to avoid drawing features for now, I think I need to get the method for drawing heads with the right shape and proportion down first. I'm currently reading through "drawing the head and hands" by Andrew Loomis, "Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain" by Betty Edwards, and also (very) slowly working through the lessons on drawabox.com. I woke up pretty late today and had to do some other things before I got to draw, so I might not post as many drawings as yesterday, but we'll see. I still have 4-5 hours before I should try to sleep.

Hey, I'm back after this (almost) week long break... Putting it simply I got distracted and ended up sinking more time than I'd like into playing video games.. I've decided to cut back heavily on them and I'm going to try to dedicate much more time into drawing, I need to give this a real shot if I want to improve.

For now here's the first rough sketch I did when coming back. Really unhappy with this but as of right now I don't really have a clear method to drawing, I kind of just try to follow the Loomis method as best as I can but honestly I haven't really read that much of the book anyways. I'm not really sure what I should be focusing on as of right now. I know I need to study the "fundementals" but I usually get burnt out very quickly doing things like drawabox studies. Nonetheless, I'll persevere through whatever challenges present themselves, and I'm using this forum to prevent myself from giving up.

I admire your commitment to this, I think the drawing from reference, even copying, would probably be the most beneficial to you at this point.

Another head from reference, I tried to render the eye kind of? I'm not sure why but I kind of just gave up on the drawing, the construction was off like it is most of the time with my drawings :? I try to use the loomis method but I'm sort of torn with whether I should just try to stick to the fundementals like drawabox until I'm fairly proficient at that stuff. It gets tiring super quickly though... shrug!

I feel like I may be trying to work through too much material at once, I'm trying to read drawing on the right side of the brain, and drawing the head and hands, and drawabox all at once. Or maybe I'm just overthinking it, who knows haha.

This was traced on top of the reference photo, I also tried to color it a little. This was the same reference as the last drawing, for some reason when using the loomis method my faces always look short and stubby.

I wanted to fill this whole page out but my work ethic is pretty shot right now, I only got about 4 hours of sleep and I'm running on empty so doing anything that requires intense focus is pretty difficult. Either way I'm happy that I'm drawing more today than usual, I might try to draw more later today.

Nearly done with Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain. This book really helped me "see" like an artist, and looking at my drawings from before the book I definitely see some improvement, and it's only been about a month. Although, 50 drawings a month is far too little in my opinion... I need to draw more.

Almost didn't draw today but I'm so glad I did, the piece I made is the best I've done so far for sure. I'm currently reading the Perspective Drawing Handbook by Joseph D Amelio, it's simple so far but helpful nonetheless.

Hey still going strong. Recently passed 100 drawings, and I'm very happy with my progress in just over 1 month. I haven't done a ton of "finished" drawings (though honestly, I don't consider my more polished line drawings as "finished" anyways...), but for the ones I have done, I'm pretty satisfied with the results seeing as I didn't expect to be able to draw that well. I'm currently working through 'fundemental' books and tutorials. I'm trying to work on perspective and proportion right now, and also some anatomy I suppose but nothing too in depth. Just what I'm finding in "Drawing the Head and Hands" by Andrew Loomis. I'm not drawing every single day, but I do draw at least a little bit on most days. Considering how much free time I actually have I'd like if I drew a lot more, but I also don't want to force myself to do anything lest I get burnt out and end up drawing less. I do draw more on average than I did a month ago however, and the more finished lineworks usually take a few hours. They still arent quite true to my references but learning about planes from loomis has already helped me understand how to construct the head a lot more.

Anyways, here are my drawings. It's mostly portrait sketches/studies, but ultimately I would like to draw full human figures. I'd like to be able to draw pinups, similar to something like Reiqs work or just classic pinup artwork like what you would see in the 40's-60's.

Critiques on all of my art is 100% accepted and encouraged.. Tell me what I'm doing wrong! I will learn to draw well if its the last thing I do!

I think you're on the right track. You've made a lot of improvement in a short amount of time and will only get better if you continue at your current pace. All I can say at this point is to keep watching your proportions and be careful with the distance between the features of the face. You could try tracing over the image you are studying first can give you a sense of the proportions.

More drawings, mostly sketches of various heads, although my most recent ones have been of one particular reference where I like the expression. Still making tons of mistakes but right now my goal is to be able to draw realistically and then work backwards since that seems to be what everyone recommends. I'm not really "working through" the loomis method anymore, I'm just using what I understand and I'm not really sure exactly how to move forward, but I do know that I need to work on well... Everything lol. I'm focusing mostly on getting proportions right, and I'm not sure how useful the loomis method is for drawing things realistically 1 to 1. And to top that realistic drawings take a lot of time to do from what I understand, but nonetheless, that the goal. I can only improve so long as I keep going.

Critiques are still very much welcome, tear all of this apart for me please haha.
